Liege of the Massif
Among the many things that are unique to the Himalayas, the 'Yaks' truly hold their own.
Yaks are found in the Himalayan region, the Tibetan plateau, Mongolia, and other areas. These animals, closely related to cattle, are gigantic long-haired, short-legged ox-like mammals, which are raised for their milk, meat, and wool. They are also domesticated to carry heavy loads and most commonly, to provide "yak safaries" or "yak rides" to tourists.
In the above photograph, we see two such domesticated yaks, standing proud beside a Himalayan lake.
These majestic beasts offer an almost mythical sight and truly represent the magnificence of the mountains.
